"Thanksgiving, after all, is a word of action." W.J. Cameron
I love Thanksgiving! I am lucky enough to have family that all live, for the most part, in South Carolina. Growing up, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas were very important family times on both my mom and my dad's sides of the family. I'll never forget playing football (okay, so I watched with the girls mostly) on Thanksgiving with my 12 cousins, and eventually, their spouses, then as we began to have kids, the numbers at the those holidays began to dwindle. As we now collectively have 26--if I'm counting correctly (could be more!)-- great-grandchildren on that side, and since my grandparents have passed away in the last few years, we no longer have those special holiday gatherings. It's sad to me, as I don't like for traditions to change.
Thankfully, that side of our family is getting together this weekend!! This is the first time in two years. Of course, there will be some who can't be there, but I can't wait to see those who can come. I'm very thankful for a close family-- although we're not able to be as close as we were growing up, we've got so many memories that we'll have forever!!
On the other side of my family, we've been able to stay closer. It's a smaller family-- only 7 grandchildren, and so far, only 8 great grandchildren-- but we still spend holidays together. My grandfather passed away a year ago, and as hard as that was, I think the close knit family made it easier to get through. We all recently went to Gatlinburg, Tennessee together... I'm very thankful for that side of my family as well!
Family is what life's all about! Everything you do, in one way or another, is about family. That's the way I see things, anyway.
In an economy where so many are out of work, and struggling, we are reminded to be thankful for what we have! So what are YOU thankful for???
Other than my family, I'm thankful for:
a wonderful husband * 3 great children who are healthy * a warm place to sleep * a job that I love * a God that loves and watches over us * growing up in a small town * friends I've held close since preschool * best friends who are always there for me * new friends who are like family * mindless reality tv at night :) * past clients who have become great friends! * so much more!!!!
I pray nightly for my family to be healthy, happy, and safe, and I'm thankful for those things as well.
What are YOU thankful for this season?
