This is the time of year when we all start stocking up on gifts that we'll give in a few weeks to our loved ones. It's also the time of year when others are out and about causing trouble, and break-ins increase. It's the time of year that you have to take that extra step in making sure the house and car doors are locked and that all of the bikes are not left in the yard. Our neighborhood had a "break-in spree" several years ago right before Christmas. Someone was kicking in the back doors and taking all that he could. They caught him when he showed up at a house in a powder blue convertible with paper tags-- not kidding-- and another neighbor took a photo of the car and the tag and called the police. It's just a time for us to stay aware of our surroundings and look out for others when we can.
It's also a time to be careful with lighting.... House fires increase from real trees and faulty lighting. Check on your insurance; make sure you know what your homeowner's insurance covers and that you have enough, should something happen.
Above all, of course, enjoy this time of year. But just stay a little more "in tune" with what's going on around you to best protect those you love and your belongings.
