I don't know how many people know this, but depending on your income and, of course, your credit scores, you may qualify for a first time buyer's program through the South Carolina Housing Authority. They have several programs, including a $5000 down payment assistance program that is either forgivable over 5 years, or must be repayed (at a low rate), depending, again, on what your income is.  Currently, there is also a program for "Hometown Heroes", called the "Palmetto Heroes Program".  It allows firefighters, police, EMS, and teachers to use a $7000 downpayment assistance program.  There are some great programs out there to help you get into your first house!
