Driving down the road tonight, I was thinking about what to post. An ambulance passed by with lights and sirens going, and because it was dark, you could see the paramedic in the back administering CPR to someone. That immediately reminded me what I'm thankful for.... I'm so very thankful for people that are called to protect us, day in and day out. EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, police officers, service men and women... Those who potentially put themselves in danger to help someone else. I'm married to a firefighter, who works EMS on some of his days off. I don't know how he or any other emergency worker can do what they do, with sometimes horrible outcomes, and continue on, whether with their work day or with their lives in general. The joke in my house is no matter what happens, when someone is hurt, the first thing I do is scream "MAC!" :) Usually he's there to take over, because I'm not good with bad situations. So I'm thankful to have him watching out for our family. When Jackson, our 7 year old, fell from a zipline in our back yard (he was 4), broke off his humerus and broke his wrist, I freaked out, while Mac calmly answered my "Are we going to the hospital?????" with a "Mmm Hmm". While we waited on an ambulance to come get our baby boy from one hospital to take him to the children's hospital, EMS friends walked by, stopped, and offered to take him immediately for us so we didn't have to wait. We've been told since that Jackson could have potentially lost his arm had we not gotten surgery so quickly. Again, I ramble. But I'm so thankful for all who are willing and able to help when others are in need. I'm not one of those people, and I'm indebted to those who are. What are you thankful for?
